Sander Tideman

on Triple Value Leadership

“Full consciousness isn’t something that our business worldview acknowledges.”

Yes, there is no place for consciousness in the boardroom yet. Or for spirituality. In the sacred world of business, numbers tend to come first. Feelings, second.

This was Sander Tideman’s trigger that led him, a former lawyer, banker and investment advisor to turn this worldview upside down. He left the business-as-usual space and followed his heart’s yearning, travelling to India where he studied with respected masters of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Sander deepened his understanding of the East by studying Chinese philosophy, language and culture in Taiwan and China. He undertook practice in the Zen, Taoist and Native American traditions and with inner nature guides such as John P. Milton. He concluded that “the mind is more than just a rational, analytical, cognitive function; it also has an emotional, physical and spiritual side with which we can unleash the huge untapped potential of ourselves!”

His quest did not stop there. He worked closely with the Dalai Lama and other thought leaders and scientists to translate these principles into leadership models for sustainable business and economics. Sander formulated a new theory and practice called Triple Value Leadership, providing business leaders with concepts and tools to build authentic sustainable and regenerative organizations.

Sander is an author, entrepreneur and executive coach who serves as director of the Compassionate Leadership in Finance initiative of The Garrison Institute. He is also offering Leadership Journeys by taking leaders to remote, untouched and culturally rich areas in nature such as Tibet, Mongolia, or Bhutan to help them explore the unexplored parts of the self.

Triple Value Leadership, his book, is a meaningful tool for new leadership seekers, putting archetypes at its core: The Wise, The Learner, The Grounder, The Connector, The Warrior, The Visionary. Balance is key when putting them in motion. Leaders should be driven by a vision that allows humans to unleash their full potential. Flourishing humans lead to flourishing businesses and relationships based on trust and integrity. A state of flow for people, business and society: the Triple Value: https://lnkd.in/dGMMPW7q

“It’s the mind and our ways of thinking that frame the world we live in. And this world we’ve created is not sustainable, which explains why we need to review the way we think.” Tapping into the full power of the mind can open the door to happiness and creativity. Mindful leadership empowers the mind aligning it to its positive values: stability, clarity, empathy, openness, wisdom, perseverance: “You don’t need to go to the Himalayas to sit in an ashram to achieve this. It’s just a doorway that’s open to every human being.”

Your personal definition of Regeneration: Regeneration occurs when you act in alignment with the principles of life, creating a healthy and happy life.

Main business challenge you face: Not many business leaders dare to align their organizations to the principles of life, holding on to control and predictability.

Main driver that keeps you going: I believe I have discovered the key principles for creating a healthy life through business/organizations, and (importantly) created key models and practices that leaders in organizations can learn and apply. I call this the Triple Value Leadership approach, which transcends traditional trade-off thinking between business (Profit) and society (Purpose).

The trait you are most proud of in yourself: I can sense future trends and emergence. I can simplify complexity and I am resilient.

The trait you most value in others: Curiosity, sensitivity, caring, optimism.

Passions & little things that bring you joy: Nature, walking, music (dance), meditation.

The #inspirators who determined you to take the regenerative path:

Many! First, it was the Dalai Lama and later the writer Fritjof Capra.

Also, the Inspirators Wakanyi and Christpher Hofmann who introduced me to this network.

A hint or starting point for companies or professionals that are taking the first steps in the regeneration journey: Unleash the purpose of people (leaders)!

Most used and abused clichés in sustainability that bother you: That sustainability (saving the planet) will cost money! The opposite is true!

An honest piece of advice for young people who lose hope: Don’t believe mainstream media! Seek truth by inner work and explore your own inner nature!

Reasons to feel pessimistic about our future in 2030: No reason, as pessimism often leads to apathy and unhappiness.
